Introduction
The tricone hole opener is a professional drilling tool used to enlarge the diameter of a pre-drilled pilot hole in oil & gas drilling, water well drilling, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), mining, and geotechnical construction. It uses tricone (roller cone) cutters as the main cutting structure, making it especially suitable for hard, abrasive, and inter-bedded formations.
The cutting teeth of the cone use TCI cutters or Steel tooth cutters. And the teeth have good wear resistance and the speed of the drill is fast. Intensive palm tip welding and full palm back protection, the cones are divided into back dimension and the diameter is protected by a protective design to effectively enhance the resistance of the drill bit.
Apply wear-resistant alloy or carbide tooth on the front stiffener or block surface. In order to reduce the weight of the rock reamer hole opener without affecting the support strength, the front centralization plate adopts a hollow design.

Features
The staged TCI cone hole opener incorporates precision-engineered cone structures to ensure fast, smoothly drilled in trenchless application, high-quality, concentric hole opening under a wide range of oil drilling application. HDD tools are run successfully on rotary and rotary steerable assemblies in both straight and deviated holes.
A range of steel tooth and tungsten carbide insert (TCI) cutting structures are available for a variety of formation conditions. The fixed-diameter hole opener is available in sizes 6 1/2'' ~ 42 ''.
- Excellent formation adaptability: Performs reliably in hard rock, shale, limestone, sandstone, conglomerate, and fractured formations.
- High impact resistance: Stable and durable in harsh drilling conditions.
- Long service life: Sealed bearings and wear-resistant carbide inserts.
- Cost-effective: Cutters can be replaced individually without replacing the whole tool.
- Smooth reaming: Provides stable, gauge-true boreholes.
Structure
- Mandrel: High-strength alloy steel body, providing torsional strength and connection to the drill string.
- Cutter arms: Stably mounted with tricone cutters.
- Tricone cutters: Standard sealed bearing roller cones with either milled tooth (MT) or tungsten carbide inserts (TCI) for rock crushing.
- Nozzles: For mud circulation, cooling cutters, and removing cuttings.
- API connections: Standard pin-box of REG,IF ,FH connections for easy assembly.
Applications
A tricone hole opener is mainly used to enlarge a pre-drilled pilot hole to a larger diameter. It is widely applied in drilling projects where high impact resistance, abrasion resistance, and stability are required, especially in hard and complex formations.
